VP/Director of Business Development

Chicago-based private equity firm New Harbor Capital is looking for a Business Development leader to join our team and coordinate the investment origination and marketing activities of the firm. We are looking for an enthusiastic, dynamic professional to source quality investment opportunities. The job requires a high degree of creativity, as locating lower middle market business owners who are looking for a partner can be challenging. This role also requires an individual who can effectively articulate the firm’s unique approach, driving toward results by persuading and influencing others to obtain commitment and buy-in of management teams, investment bankers, business brokers and other intermediaries. We are looking for an extroverted self-starter, proficient in social media, technology and all forms of communication, who will be pro-active in developing relationships and furthering New Harbor’s connections with referral sources for relevant investment targets.

The VP/Director of Business Development will report to the firm’s Partners and assume the following key responsibilities:

  • Create a coordinated origination strategy to increase relevant investment opportunities
  • Improve digital marketing and social media capabilities to both organize and effectively communicate with the lower middle market to support origination efforts
  • Effectively utilize in-person meetings to augment origination and marketing efforts including selective travel to important industry conferences and events
  • Support the investment team with service orientation and collaboration

Potential Experience:

  • Coordinated and executed an origination program for a private equity firm or similar business development responsibilities for an investment bank
  • Prior finance experience for effective and knowledgeable opportunity screening
  • Established industry relationships with investment intermediaries
  • Digital marketing, social media and communications experience
  • MBA preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of work experience
  • Title dependent on experience and education

 

VP/Director of Research

Chicago-based private equity firm New Harbor Capital is looking for a VP/Director of Research to join our team and coordinate the research activities of the firm. This role will require proactive thesis development as well as transaction and portfolio company support. The candidate will have intellectual curiosity and the ability to use data and a creative approach to accurately predict company and industry trends with a comprehensive risk assessment.   The ideal candidate will have proven analytical and interpretive skills, a strong technical orientation and the ability to communicate synthesized recommendations effectively to the team in both written and verbal communications.

The VP/Director of Research will report to the firm’s Partners and assume the following key responsibilities:

  • Manage multiple projects for multiple teams with varying time constraints
  • Creatively and efficiently source information from a myriad of sources utilizing digital media, phone calls, interviews and other non-public and primary sources, as well as published research and data sources
  • Effectively synthesize and communicate key findings with sufficient detail and relevant insights in both written and verbal form
  • Support the investment team with service orientation and collaboration

Potential Experience:

  • Buy-side research for an investment firm
  • Conducted industry due diligence for a consulting firm
  • Research analyst for an investment bank
  • Graduate degree preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years work experience
  • Title dependent on experience and education

 

VP/Director of Portfolio Accounting

Chicago-based private equity firm New Harbor Capital is looking for a VP/Director of Portfolio Accounting to join our team to oversee the accounting and finance functions at the portfolio company level. The candidate will have excellent communication skills to work with our portfolio company CFOs and finance departments to develop and coordinate accounting and financial systems and controls. This job requires attention to detail, the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with deadline sensitivity and adherence to standards and policies. The ideal candidate will have the skills to train, teach and motivate a portfolio team through audits, systems implementations and finance and accounting challenges.

The VP/Director of Research will report to the firm’s Partners and assume the following key responsibilities:

  • Manage multiple projects for multiple teams with varying time constraints
  • Serve as the liaison between the portfolio company finance/accounting departments and the New Harbor investment team
  • Oversee ongoing finance/accounting functions as well as possible acquisition integrations
  • Identify and coordinate process improvement initiatives

Potential Experience:

  • Public accounting experience
  • Transaction due diligence experience
  • Audit experience
  • Systems implementation experience
  • CPA preferred
  • Minimum of 7 years work experience
